Handmade Gift Exchange Part 2

HGEParticipant

I recently posted about signing up for the Handmade Gift Exchange through Craftaholics Anonymous. This is the first time for me to participate and I was super excited to make something fun for my partner. I had seen these rosette necklaces all over blog land and had wanted to make one. {via Pattern Runway} Jen, from Tatertots and Jello, also recently posted a tutorial on a beachy rosette necklace and I knew this is what I wanted to make for the exchange. {via Tatertots and Jello} My partner told me that her favorite colors were red and silver. So the first thing I did was to get red fabric and a silver piece of felt. Then I made several different rosettes in … Read More

The Plaid Apron

ydmh2

Like I mentioned on Friday, me and a few friends took a little trip down to Knoxville, TN to visit The Plaid Apron. A friend of mine opened The Plaid Apron last month and we were trying to plan a weekend to go down and try it out. And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! What makes them unique is that they are a farm to table restaurant. They use only the freshest products available and keep it as local as possible by buying from local farmers. The space used to be a coffee shop before. Bonni (and team) certainly turned it into a really cozy and inviting space. Here are a few before pictures to give you an idea of how they changed the space. They opted to re-paint the … Read More

Styling Bookcases

2q3nla0

I love built-in bookshelves and just bookshelves in general. They are a great way to add storage but also add character to the overall room. {via 6th Street Design School} Despite the fact that I love them, my problem has always been how to display objects and books on them well. Currently in my apartment, I have two built-in bookshelves. I love that the apartment came with these, but I'm not fully utilizing them for their potential. I know for me when we moved in, I just wanted to get everyting out of boxes and up on shelves/walls as quickly as possible so that it felt like home. As a result, these two shelves in particular have an assortment of books and accessories thrown on … Read More

Etsy Shop Highlight

etsyheader

As most of you know, I started an Etsy shop back in September. I used to scrapbook, but stopped because it got really expensive. I had all these leftover supplies/paper, so I started to make cards for friends and family. I really enjoyed doing it and people seemed to really like the cards. Around that same time, I discovered the loveliness that is Etsy. With the encouragement of friends and family, I decided to start my own Etsy shop, Megan Brooke Handmade, and sell my cards. From there, I decided to expand my paper product line and started to make cupcake toppers, banners and even invitations. It's something I have had so much fun doing and a great creative outlet for me.Here are … Read More

Baking Fail

13z4pis

Have you ever been excited to try a new recipe and it turned into a disaster? Well, it's happened to me twice now. I had some girls over Monday night to watch The Bachelorette and wanted to bake a little something. I had seen this recipe on Picky Palate for Smore's Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies and thought this would be the perfect occasion! Don't they look amazing?! Well, the first problem I ran into was I didn't have enough all purpose flour that the recipe called for. So instead, I substituted self rising flour for all purpose and nixed the baking soda it called for. Not a problem, right? I also realized after I had put all the ingredients together that I forgot to add the brown … Read More

Deck Makeover Reveal

Well friends, I added the last minute touches to the deck this week and it's finished...for now at least :) Who knows, I may get an itch in a few months to change things, but for now it's done! Here's the before picture:: Again, pit-i-ful. Alright, drumroll please.... Here are the after pictures:: {one side of the deck} {the other side} *disclaimer: yes I know there are some bulbs in this strand of lights :) What do you think? Here's a close up of the centerpiece on the table. The turquoise wooden box was $5 and is actually supposed to be pot for a plant. I took a mason jar and filled it with rice and used a brown tea light to place inside to make it more of a … Read More

I Love Summer

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I got to spend a lot of time at the pool and worked on painting the shutter and window I bought a few weekends ago.
