Antique Shopping in Greenville

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Mine was both fun and productive {both things that always make for a good weekend, right?}.

Saturday I actually got out with one of my new friends here in Greenville and did a little exploring of the city and perused some local antique shops. Thought I would show you some of the fun finds I found while out and about.

One of our first stops was Antiques on Augusta. Even before I moved to Greenville, I had heard about this place. Seems to have a very good reputation in town. And they definitely lived up to that reputation.

I loved this beaded turquoise chandelier in one of the booths.

Sunburst mirrors have been all the rage for a while. But, I’ve yet to see one made out of pencils. This would be such a cute gift for a teacher don’t you think?

We all know I’m obsessed with grain sack and I loved this little grain sack ottoman. Served as some possible inspiration for a grain sack I have waiting to be used.

Antiques on Augusta: Grainsack Stool

I also loved this funky antique brush display. For the avid DIY’er this would be a cute accessory for someone’s office or workshop.

And this branch chandelier in one of the spaces I thought was gorgeous! I can just envision it over a long farmhouse style table in a dining room. Maybe my future dream dining room?

Antiques on Augusta not only had great pieces but some of the booths had amazing backdrops. I loved this unique fabric backdrop display.

Our second stop was Consign and Design on Augusta. They had a smaller selection, but the prices were a little bit less than Antiques on Augusta. Loved this industrial wood coffee table. Would love to one day have something like this in my home.

Lately I’ve been gravitating towards metal stools. They had a few really unique metal stools that I liked.

Our third stop was a place called Palmetto Home and Garden. The store is broken up into booths/spaces that are rented by different people (similar to some antique stores). But they have a large variety of different items. Some booths have jewelry, some have unique gifts, and then there are booths that have custom furniture or decor pieces. There is also a booth that sells Annie Sloan chalk paint as well as Miss Mustard’s new line of milk paint.

I loved this cut out metal sign in one of the booths.

And I just loved how colorful and fun this booth was overall. Loved the hanging pom poms as well as the colorful pieces they were selling.

And lastly I loved this unique furniture piece. Loved all the colorful drawers and pulls. Would never have thought to do something like this myself.

I didn’t end up buying anything. Didn’t really need to buy anything for my new place, just wanted to do some fun window shopping. Looking forward to my next antique shopping excursion.

And on another note, today is actually an exciting day for me. It’s the first day at my new job here in Greenville. I am working at a local interior design/home furnishings company helping them launch their ecommerce site and help with some of the marketing. I am so excited to not only use my marketing background in a new industry, but also excited to learn more about the design industry and hopefully learn lots from some of the designers. Here’s to a new adventure! Wish me luck!

Fall Fashion Ideas

After blogging about my September goals, which included decorating for fall, I’m slowly coming around to the idea of a new season approaching {keyword, slowly}.

Along with decorating for a new season, fall also means dressing for a new season. It means you can dust off your boots that have been sitting in your closet for the past month and you can bust out the cute scarves.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a fashionista. I can put an outfit together, but I typically tend to play it safe when it comes to color/style. Sometimes I look at people’s outfits and think, “I would never have put that all together, but it looks good.” But I’m in the process of trying to branch out and take risks when it comes to clothing.

Have you heard of Polyvore? Polyvore is basically a mood board creator for fashion. You can shop for individual items of clothing/accessories and then put them all together in a collage to make an outfit.

To get us into the fall mood, I thought it would be fun to round up some fall fashion ideas. And instead of me trying to put together a pretty boring/basic outfit, I thought I would find outfits that some fashion savvy people have already put together using Polyvore.

I do have to admit that I love getting to wear boots in the fall and I love these brown boots.

I’m not always good at accessorizing, but I’m loving all the accessories in this next outfit.

I don’t know about you, but now I’m motivated to do some shopping!

What about you, are you excited about dusting off your boots and breaking out the fall clothes?

Where To Find Bookshelf Accessories

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The weather here this weekend was great so I spent a lot of time outdoors soaking up what’s left of summer.

Last week I showed you guys my fully accessorized bookshelves. I also showed you how I went about styling them here.

How To Style Bookshelves

The hardest part in getting your bookshelves styled is filling them with lots of accessories. For the most part, most of us could shop our homes and find things to fill them with. For me, I didn’t have a lot of stuff on hand already so most of the stuff I collected over the course of a few months.

I thought I would tell you where I got everything today in case you are on the hunt for accessories like I was.

How To Style Bookshelves

1. The trophy came from my grandmother’s garage. I think someone delivered a flower arrangement to her in it. I just liked that it was something different to add to the mix. I have to admit, the trophy was actually once a bright and shiny copper color. My roommates and friends ever so nicely made comments about the color a few times, so I finally caved and spray painted it a more muted metallic. They were right, this looks much better :)

2. I absolutely love the old school hardback Reader’s Digest books with the funky covers. I’ve started collecting them and have some in my room as well. I found most of mine at my local thrift stores like Goodwill.

3. The wire basket came from a local antique store {and I have totally forgotten the name by now}. I love the look of wire baskets and when I saw it I knew I wanted to incorporate it into the shelves somehow.

4. The porcelain pitcher came from one of my favorite home goods store here in town called PD’s {Premier Discounts}. If you live in or around the Franklin area, I would highly recommend this place. Their stuff changes all the time, but it’s good quality high end items that they are able to provide and sell at a discount. If I had all the money in the world, I could buy everything in that store.

5. The old Coca-Cola crate came from the Nashville Flea Market.

6. The faux plant came from another great home decor store, Home Goods. Always a great option for affordable items!

7. This set of books actually came from my grandmother’s house. I didn’t realize that she had such a treasure trove of fun antique things, but I mentioned that I had been looking for old books and she let me go through her collection and take a few.

8. The framed antique skeleton key art I actually made a while back and used in my bathroom in our old apartment. You can see it in the bathroom here {please excuse the awful pictures… when I look back at those pictures and my pictures now I can certainly tell my photography has improved}.

9. Both blue mason jars came from a local antique store called The Arbor Mall. The faux dried hydrangeas came from JoAnn’s.

10. The spindles came from a local antique fair that I went to last year called Bella Rustica. I had never heard of it prior to going, but there were some amazing vendors. It’s happening again in September and I’m hoping I’ll be able to go this year.

11. Also got this set of books from my grandmother’s fabulous collection.

12. This faux antique fan came from Kirkland’s. Not quite as cool as a real vintage fan, but I kind of like it.

How To Style Bookshelves

1. The bubbled purple vase and mirror were also purchases from PD’s.

2. The PRAY framed artwork came from Hobby Lobby. We actually used this in our old apartment on our shelves in our living room.

3. I absolutely love this wooden frame. There’s really nothing to it, but I just love it for some reason. I got this at a cute store in downtown Franklin called The Shoppes on Main. We also used this on our shelves in our old apartment.

4. White ceramic vase came from IKEA.

5. These really worn tiny books came from the Nashville Flea Market. I just loved how worn and old they were.

Do you have a favorite place or store you like to shop for accessories?

I’ve had a few people ask me to help them style their bookshelves {including my mom} so hopefully I’ll have some more fully decorated bookshelves to show you in the near future!

I Heart Etsy:: Digital Window Shopping

This past weekend here in Tennessee it was a tax free weekend. All clothes under $100 were tax free. So me, trying to save money and find deals whenever I can, I decided to venture out and do a little shopping. What I didn’t anticipate {don’t ask me why} was the ridiculous number of people who had the same idea I had. It was super crowded everywhere I went! Not exactly what I had in mind.

For me, I have to be in the mood to shop. I have to really be in the mood to look and be willing to make purchases. But sometimes, I just like to window shop. I just like to peruse from a distance and just browse, with no intentions of buying anything at all.

So  since I love Etsy and since I’ve been in a ‘shopping mood’ you could say, I decided to do a little digital window shopping. Here’s a roundup of things that caught my eye on Etsy.

I heart etsy

Etsy Roundup

1. iPad Cover // 2. Rusted Metal Letter // 3. Kraft Paper Recipe Cards // 4. Dictionary Washi Tape // 5. Clutch //  6. Twine // 7. Wood Picture Frame // 8. Bird Pottery Bowls

I don’t have an iPad, but if I did, I would be all over that grain sack cover. I threw in the recipe cards because my organization method for my recipes I’ve collected is embarrassing. It mainly consists of  a stack of papers bulging from a folder in no particular order. {I do organize a lot of recipes I find online on Pinterest, but I’m one of those people that likes to have a hard copy most of the time}.

And that rusty metal letter that lights up, ah-mazing!

What about you, are you a window shopper? Do you ever digital window shop?

Antique Store:: Preservation Station

Once I decided I wanted to make my own curtain rod for my room, I went on a hunt to find the perfect knobs to attach to the ends. I looked at a few antique stores in town, but the knobs I found were super expensive. I went ahead and bought some round wood pieces at JoAnns and was going to try and make some faux knobs if it came down to it.

But, I recently heard about this store called Preservation Station here in Nashville. Their website showed that they had quite a selection when it came to knobs, so I figured I would check it out as a last resort. Man, did I hit jackpot!

I took pictures of some of the awesome stuff they had  to show you guys. I apologize though, I had no idea what a gem this place was, so I only had my iPhone to document. So unfortunately the pictures aren’t great.

Preservation StationThey had windows and doors leaning outside so I immediately knew I was going to love this place!

Preservation StationLet me just tell you, I hit the mother load when it comes to knobs.

Preservation StationThis place had a ridiculous selection.

Preservation StationI think I sat and stared at them for a good 20-30 minutes trying to narrow it down.

Preservation StationThey also had a HUGE selection of doors.

Preservation StationThe cool part about this place is that a lot of their pieces are true antiques. Dating back to the 1800s.

Preservation StationI’ve always wanted a clawfoot tub. If you found a cool tub, but were missing the clawfoot legs, they had several in stock which I thought was neat.

Preservation StationThey also had tons of spindles.

Preservation StationAnd some really cool antique light fixtures.

Preservation StationThey also had some molding pieces.

Preservation StationI’m so glad I decided to check this place out! When I was trying to decide on knobs, they were asking me what I was using them for and I told them they were for a curtain rod I was making. I totally assumed they would think I was ludicrous, but they said that someone actually came in and bought 10 or so pairs for the exact same thing. Glad I didn’t sound crazy! :)

If you live in the Nashville area or are just passing through, I highly recommend you check this place out.
