Creative Storage Solutions

I live in a teeny tiny apartment. It has plenty of space for little ole me, but when it comes to storage, it’s a little sparce.

I’ve mentioned before that I might be a borderline hoarder. I have a ton of stuff, I’ll be the first to admit. Most of the excess stuff that I don’t need on a daily basis I’m storing at my fiance’s house, but there are some things I needed to store at my place that I would need to use every now and then.

I do have a decent amount of kitchen cabinet space, but I also had a lot of kitchen items. After I unpacked my boxes and put everything away, I still had a few things that I didn’t have a place for. So what’s a girl to do…get creative.

Instead of using a normal table as my coffee table in my living space, I had this chest I got from Target a few years ago that I decided to use.

And here’s why.

Creative Storage Solutions

Inside of it there is a ton of storage space. Those kitchen items I couldn’t really find a place for are now housed in here. And luckily these aren’t things I need to fish out on a daily basis. Just things I would need when baking or entertaining.

For those of you, like me, who live in small spaces, creative storage is essential. Here are a few additional creative ‘hidden’ storage solutions if you are struggling to find a place for everything.

Obviously if you were renting you couldn’t build this out. But, if you live in a small home you own, you could cut out some space within your stairs to store blankets, etc.

This is a clever way to create some storage on your shelves while also making them look pretty. Create some hidden storage using books like Sewing Barefoot did. Great way to hide cords, remotes and other small items you don’t want to be seen.

Skirted tables are another great storage solution. You can hide some of your larger items underneath the table and cover it up with some pretty fabric.

Here’s another great storage option that also makes your shelves look pretty. Hide a storage box behind a large picture frame and mount it on your shelves. You can store additional keepsakes or even stationary or important documents in the storage box itself.

And why not take advantage of that space underneath your bed. Keep everything organized by using storage drawers with wheels.

Plan to blog about another storage solution that I finished recently as well as show you pictures of my entire living room. Stay tuned.

P.S. Don’t you just love my pretty coffee table flowers?

I took those from some of the many flowers I got on our engagement night and put them together in my new mason jar.

Pantry Organization + Pantry Inspiration

I mentioned a few weeks ago about us signing up for our first CSA. We’ve been doing a lot of cooking with our fresh veggies and meat and are still loving it {planning to post what we’ve gotten these last few weeks and what we’ve made soon}.

With all the cooking we’ve been doing, the pantry is getting stocked up. Problem is, we didn’t really know what we had or where things were because the pantry was a little disorganized {and I’m partially to blame, I just stuck things wherever there was room}.

Pantry Before

So, a few weekends ago I took some time to re-organize the pantry in hopes that we would be able to better keep track of things we needed for our meals and not buy something we might have already had. Here’s what it looked like after a little organization.

Pantry After

The goal for the pantry re-organization was to not spend any money and for it to be functional. Mission accomplished I think.

Here’s a little breakdown of how I organized it. It’s basically organized by type of food {i.e. Italian, ethnic, baking goods, etc.}.

I realize these aren’t Pinterest worthy pictures. But, that wasn’t the point.

But, what blog post is complete without some Pinterest worthy photos. Exactly, it’s not. So here are some pretty pantries to inspire you on this Wednesday.

Color Inspiration:: Coral & Navy

The weather was awesome this past weekend here in Greenville. I was able to do a little spring cleaning and enjoy the outdoors a bit which I loved. I’m definitely a warmer temps gal. I don’t realize until the warmer temps roll around, how much of a recluse I am in the winter. When it’s dark and cold outside after work, I’m not super motivated to do much of anything. Anyone else relate?

Now that the daylight hours are longer, I feel motivated when I get home from work to explore, be more active and get things done.

With the warmer weather, I’m also motivated to do a little switcharoo with my wardrobe. I tend to lean towards neutral colors when it comes to clothes. Admittedly I’m a little afraid of color. Not sure if I can pull bright colors off or how to really pair color together. I also don’t really know how to use color when it comes to decorating. Neutrals I get, so I tend to stick with those.

If you follow me on Instagram (@mbhandmade), you may have seen me post a picture of some new pants I bought.

Green Pants

Yes, they are bright green and totally not something I would normally buy. But, it’s time for me to switch it up and incorporate some new fun spring colors into my closet and into my home. And I’m starting off with bright green pants.

Coral is one of those colors that I’ve been eyeing lately. It just feels ‘spring-y’ and fun, and isn’t too ‘colorful’ for me. Plus, it looks great paired with neutrals, especially navy. Since I’m digging the coral and navy color combination, I thought I would round up some inspiration that incorporates these two colors not only in fashion, but also in the home.

I absolutely love that Anchored in Prayer print and everything in this shop for that matter.

What color combination are you currently loving?

Inspiration:: Restored Barns

I have a thing for barns. It’s not because I’m a down home country girl or anything. I love them because they typically have a history and I love all the old wood.

What I love even more than just a barn, is a barn that’s been converted into a home. Talk about having a home with character!

Here’s a roundup of just some of the amazing converted barns I’ve been eyeing.

I love all the original wood ceiling beams these converted barns have, don’t you?

Here are a few homes that weren’t actually converted from barns but the exteriors have been designed to look like a barn.

One of my all time favorite converted barns is Ronnie Dunn’s converted barn in Nashville, TN.

I wrote a post about it last summer. Seriously amazing.

Do you love barns or are they a little bit too ‘country’ for you?
