Pantry Organization + Pantry Inspiration

I mentioned a few weeks ago about us signing up for our first CSA. We’ve been doing a lot of cooking with our fresh veggies and meat and are still loving it {planning to post what we’ve gotten these last few weeks and what we’ve made soon}.

With all the cooking we’ve been doing, the pantry is getting stocked up. Problem is, we didn’t really know what we had or where things were because the pantry was a little disorganized {and I’m partially to blame, I just stuck things wherever there was room}.

Pantry Before

So, a few weekends ago I took some time to re-organize the pantry in hopes that we would be able to better keep track of things we needed for our meals and not buy something we might have already had. Here’s what it looked like after a little organization.

Pantry After

The goal for the pantry re-organization was to not spend any money and for it to be functional. Mission accomplished I think.

Here’s a little breakdown of how I organized it. It’s basically organized by type of food {i.e. Italian, ethnic, baking goods, etc.}.

I realize these aren’t Pinterest worthy pictures. But, that wasn’t the point.

But, what blog post is complete without some Pinterest worthy photos. Exactly, it’s not. So here are some pretty pantries to inspire you on this Wednesday.

House Tour:: Tiny House

I haven’t done a house tour in a while. So today I thought I would show you guys some pictures of a house I recently came across.

I was looking for inspiration on Houzz recently and stumbled upon this 540 sq ft. house located in Sauvie Island, OR. You read that right, 540 square feet! Jessica Helgerson {an interior designer} and her husband and 2 kids live here. They completely renovated the place and did an amazing job maximizing their space.

Let’s take a look shall we?

I absolutely love the combination of the wood accent wall and crisp walls and ceiling in their kitchen.

The couple sleep in this upstairs loft. How cozy!

The bunk beds in their kids room are a perfect solution to maximizing space.

I currently am obsessed with free standing tubs so I love the tub in their bathroom.

Doesn’t this make you want to have a tiny house now too?

Charleston Style Homes

This past weekend for Labor Day, I went to the beautiful city of Charleston, SC. I had been once before in college, but was excited to get the chance to go back.

Charleston is a beautiful city and even more beautiful are the homes. The Charleston style home is very distinct. They are the epitome of Southern charm and the thing I love the most about them are the porches. A large majority of the porches are gorgeous wrap-arounds that sometimes consist of multiple levels.

I’ve always dreamed of having a large wrap around porch one day so seeing a lot of these homes in person definitely left me wanting to fulfill that dream even more.

Here are some gorgeous examples of Charleston homes that I hope make you leave feeling just as inspired as I was when I was there.

How To Select & Layer Fabric {Selecting Fabric For Pillows}

One of my goals for this month was to either find some pillows to add to my bed or find some fabric to make pillows out of. That’s a bit of a challenge for me for a few reasons.

A) I’m not the best at mixing different patterns/colors since I’m typically a pretty neutral decorator. So, since I’m looking to add some color to my bed, I’m having a hard time figuring out what kind of pattern/print and color to add.

B) I don’t know how to sew. So if I find some fabric I like, it should be an interesting task to figure out how to even attempt to make pillows from it :)

So, for all of you out there like me that struggle with how to mix and pair patterns together, I’ve rounded up a few inspirational images with pillow fabric pairings done well.

I would never put together all those colors and fabrics in the above picture, but it totally works for this cozy couch area.

The image below is a lot like the look of my bed. I have the ruffle comforter and a bolster pillow in the front. I’ve thought about adding some type of grain sack fabrics like they did, but a part of me just wants to take a risk and go bold with color.

Love the pairing of the different brown fabrics on this couch. Right up my neutral loving alley :)

To further help us in our endeavors, I’ve also rounded up a few posts with some helpful tips from a few experts in this area.

-Interior Design Musings has a great post with tips on how to go about selecting fabric.

-The Handmade Home  has some great advice on how to mix patterns.

-Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, Censational Girl has a fabulous post on the best places to find fabric online. Included in her roundup is a site called Spoonflower. I’ve never used them, but if you can’t find a fabric you like, you can make your own pattern or print with them.

I’m hoping to get out this weekend and do a little browsing. Fingers crossed I’m able to find something I like. :)

If you are an expert at selecting fabric, do you have any additional tips? Do you have a favorite place where you like to buy fabric?

Inspiration:: Stylish Beach Cottage

I had an amazing long weekend at the beach. I got lots of sun {maybe a little too much} and had lots of fun with friends. I so wish I could have stayed a few more days, but it was back to reality yesterday. :(

One of the reasons I love the beach so much is because of the laid back attitude. There’s no agenda, no schedule and no time pressures. I also love when this attitude and style is translated into a home.

I came across this coastal cottage in Galveston, TX on Houzz recently. It has that simplistic beach vibe but with a touch of class and I thought this would be the perfect time to share since I still have the beach on my mind.

I love how this home feels like the beach {light, airy, sunny} without going too literal {i.e. sea shells, light houses, etc.}. And all the decor is very simplistic {true to the beach vibe}.

This vacation home is meant to feel lived in so all the fabrics and materials used are easy to clean and low maintenance, but they still feel elegant.

Love all the crisp white bedding. Makes all the rooms feel fresh and clean.

Isn’t the mirror gorgeous? It definitely feels beachy, with the driftwood finish.

The outdoor living space is also cozy.

Simple furniture pieces are livened up with pops of color from the pillows.

What do you think? Doesn’t this make you wish you had a beach house too?  Maybe they will let me just come visit ;)
