Fall Home Tour {Simplistic Fall Decor}

Ever since we moved into our house, I’ve been looking forward to this time of the year: getting to decorate our house for fall and Christmas.

This year my motto for seasonal decorating is ‘simple.’ For the past several years I’ve been decorating small rental places so my seasonal decor stash doesn’t quite cover an entire house.

I plan to build it up a little each year and not go overboard all at once. After all, the best sales on seasonal decor are after the season passes, so you better believe I’ll stock up a little more in a month or so!

But this year I’m actually really loving the simplicity. Our house isn’t completely decorated yet, but it feels clean and simple and just a few simple touches of fall throughout the house were all that was needed.

My theme this year with decorations was very natural. Nature inspired elements {pumpkins, plants, cotton, wheat, etc.} and I love the texture that the natural look adds.

I used to dream about the day when I would have my very own mantel to decorate. Granted I did live in a rental house with a few girls one year that had a fireplace and did get to decorate a fall mantel, but I was excited to one day have my very own house and mantel to do with what I wanted.

And now I have three mantels to decorate, more than I even know what to do with! I feel so incredibly blessed and fortunate to live in a home that I love, that inspires me daily, and is a reflection of our family. But, ultimately I realize more and more each day that it’s not the ‘stuff’ or the decorations or the physical features of a house that make it a home. What makes a home are the memories made, moments shared, and the hospitality and love shared with others.

Hopefully the decorations make the house feel a little more cozy though. My favorite thing this time of year are small white pumpkins and cinderella pumpkins. So a large part of the seasonal decor incorporates those 2 things.

I also have several dusty miller plants outside in some flower pots and decided to snip off a few leaves to incorporate in various places. Why buy when you can use things in your own backyard?

Here are a few more pictures of corners of our home with simple fall touches that I’ll leave you with.

I know I haven’t shared a lot of pictures of the house since we’ve moved in. Life has gotten hectic and crazy and I feel like I still have so much to do with regards to decorating before I share more pictures with the world. But I promise they are coming…eventually.

Maybe the next time you hear from me will be before I do a Christmas home tour, but I can’t promise anything. 😉

    Megan you home is lovely. Don’t feel like you have to fill it to please blogland. I would rather see a home filled with love than stuff. Oh I love that chair may I ask where you got it?
