Around Here:: November Edition

Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week? These last few months have flown by and I can’t believe we’re already entering into holiday season. I feel like I’m the last person on earth {or at least the last blogger} who hasn’t decked their halls for Christmas yet. I’m usually super excited to decorate for Christmas but this year, the excitement just isn’t there as much as it has been in the past.

Part of that is because I had envisioned and dreamed about decorating our new house for Christmas this year, but with our move-in date getting pushed further and further back, I guess my dreams just feel a little dashed. That’s ok, because next year people watch out! This girl will be going Christmas decorating ca-razy next Christmas.

Enough about Christmas though, here’s what we’ve been up to these past few months.

Checking: out what all the fuss is about for Halloween on our new street. We had heard that Halloween is a big deal where our future home is, but we wanted to check it out and see it with our own eyes. We walked up the street with some of our friends and their kiddos and couldn’t believe the amount of people. People drive across town to trick or treat on our street and all the neighbors go all out with decorations. Looks like we’re going to have to start saving up now for all the Halloween candy we’ll be buying next year.

Thinking: about all the people we met and got to hang out with in Kenya last month. I still think about the patients we saw, the kids we played with and our partners there in Kenya on an almost daily basis. I don’t want to forget the emotions I felt, the things we witnessed, or the faces we saw. I want to always remember what God taught me and showed me and I’m still trying to figure out how to live it out on a daily basis.

Witnessing: the first snow of the season. We got a light dusting the day after Halloween and if it’s any indication about how the rest of the winter will be, you will find me hibernating for the next several months.

Loving: the new T-Swift song Blank Space. I really tried not to cave into the T-Swift craze since her new album released, but this song is just so catchy I can’t help myself! I may or may not have played the sample on iTunes for the hubs about 10 times the other night.

Celebrating: our anniversary in Highlands, NC. We spent the weekend in the mountains a few weekends after our actual anniversary. We ate our weight in food {it was their culinary weekend} and spent some time in the great outdoors. It’s a tradition I think we’ll carry out for the next several years.

Planning: a trip to Hilton Head next week. The hubs and his family typically all get together in Hilton Head and spend Thanksgiving together. This will be my first official family Thanksgiving with them at the beach and I’m looking forward to seeing them, relaxing and eating.

Feeling: thankful to be married to this wonderful man. With Thanksgiving being next week, I’ve been thinking about all the things I’m thankful for. Getting to do life with this guy is at the top of the list. There’s no one else I would rather be silly with, cuddle with and laugh with than this guy.

Giving: three trash bags full of clothes away to Goodwill. A few weeks ago when the temperatures changed and warmer temperatures were no where in site, I did the ole switcheroo in the closet, switching out summer clothes for winter. I went through all my clothes, both in my closet and dressers, and tossed anything I hadn’t worn the last year. For this borderline hoarder, this was a huge accomplishment.

Scoring: some amazing antique finds. When we were up in Highlands, we drove down to Franklin, NC for the morning and stumbled upon an amazing antique store. Their prices were great and we went home with an adorable Christmas pillow, kitchen scale, coffee grinder and old washboard. We can’t wait to display these in our new place {hopefully} in a few months.

Trying: out a new Barre studio in town called Barre Evolution. I mentioned that I wanted to find a fun exercise class to do in the fall/winter months. I took some barre classes before we got married but decided it was a little too expensive. But, this new studio in town was running a deal through Living Social and I couldn’t pass it up. I actually really enjoy this new place, but it’s totally kicking my butt.

Admiring: God’s work. Even though I don’t love the cooler temperatures that fall brings, I sure do think God is an amazing artist this time of year. The changing leaves is one of the things that I do love about this time of year and this is my favorite tree in town. I don’t even know what kind of tree it is but it sure produces pretty color.

Enjoying: doing Thanksgiving dinner with our friends in our community group. We had our annual Friendsgiving meal together the other night. It doesn’t get much better than good friends, good food and good conversation. Blessed to be in community with them.

Looking: forward to seeing all the tile completely installed in the house. I shared a renovation update with you guys earlier this week. One thing I couldn’t really take pictures of and that wasn’t complete was all the tile work. I was able to get this shot of our master bathroom shower before they officially started painting and taping everything off. Makes me so excited to see the rest finally installed!

Ordering: our Christmas cards. I finally decided on a picture and got them all ordered. I know I may be super old school, but I love Christmas cards, I love sending them and I love getting them. Once they come in I’ll be sure to share it with you guys.

Hoping: to pay a visit to Knoxville soon and officially meet this little guy. My best friend from high school had a baby a few months back and I’m dying to get a hold of those adorable cheeks.

Debating: whether I should take the plunge and put up my Christmas decorations this weekend. I was planning to wait until after Thanksgiving, but I won’t have a chance to get it up until the weekend after. Might as well just bite the bullet and get it done, right?

What have you guys been up to lately?
