31 Days to Building Your Dream Home:: Stage 3

Now that your electrical is installed and your drywall is up, it’s time to move into stage 3 of construction.

This is where the fun really begins and your house really begins to take shape.

Once drywall is complete and walls are sanded and prepped, next on the list for your walls is trim. All your interior trim like crown molding, baseboards, and trim around windows and doors will be installed.

Crown Molding

At this point is when all your cabinetry will be installed as well. Once they are completely installed, your granite fabricator will come out and get exact measures for all your countertops and start templating. Before they template, they will also need all your sink measurements and most require your farmhouse sink to be set in your kitchen cabinetry before they can template your kitchen countertops.

Your flooring will also be installed at this time {prior to cabinets going in}.

Which brings me to the next stage of design selections.

Next on the list to finalize is paint colors and all your flooring. Flooring is probably something you’ve been discussing throughout the process and most likely already know the type of flooring you plan to do in certain areas of your home {based on allowances, your specs, etc.}. If you’ve finalized tile selections, you’ve already finalized any floor tile. It’s just time to make exact carpet selections or hardwood floor selections.

Door Trim

I’ll go into both of these design elements a little more in detail over the next few days.

At this point you’ll be able to really visualize what each space will look like and all the visions and ideas you’ve had for your home will start to take shape. Seeing some of these things go in {like flooring, cabinets, etc.} will help you make all the final detailed selections that need to be made as well.
