Renovation Update:: Then & Now

So it’s been a while since I’ve given you guys a picture update on the house progress. I’ve alluded to the fact that it’s been a little slow. We had a change of project managers and our new project manager {who we love by the way} has had to spend some time getting up to speed and fix a few things that were done incorrectly on the interior.

With all that, things have been a little slower than we anticipated. The exterior of the house though is mostly done. We have brick on the addition now and the beginnings of our carport. We’re just waiting for our exterior doors to arrive before everything around door frames gets entirely bricked.

Once doors are in and the final brick is put in place, they will begin painting the brick. All the brick will be painted white and all the front wood windows will eventually be painted a bronze color to match the aluminum clad windows on the back side of the house.

With all the slow progress, there’s been times where we feel discouraged and wonder if we’ll ever move in. But recently I was going back through pictures and even though it’s not the finished product, it’s really neat to see how far we have in fact come compared to where we started. So I thought it would be fun to throw in a little then and now update along with some new progress photos.

Then and Now Front

The roof line looks so much prettier than it did. Granted it was falling apart before, but all the breadboard underneath and wood detailing look so fresh and new.

Then and Now Front Porch

I don’t have the exact angle of the front porch in both of these pictures, but you can see the new beadboard ceiling we now have on the porch along with new concrete {instead of the broken red tile look} for the flooring.

Then and Now Brick Wall

What was once the back of the house, is now inside our house. This same exterior wall is now on the left of the bottom photo and makes up one of the walls in our dining room. I think they are waiting until we have sheetrock before they re-install the bricks on this wall. You can read all about why the bricks were taken down here.

Then and Now Hallway

Remember the hallway upstairs that led to the old sunroom? That same hallway now leads to two new bedrooms. What was once a bedroom on the left is now our jack and jill bathroom.

Here’s just a visual to see the progress that’s been made on the side of the house where we extended it for the stairwell.

New Stairs

We also now have stairs on the interior of the house. They tore the old ones down and for a while there was no way to access the upstairs, which meant no progress upstairs. But, now that there are stairs, things can keep a moving along.

With stairs come a stairwell. We now have this pretty open stairwell where my favorite Pottery Barn Lantern will be hung in front of those big pretty windows.

Open Office

My office is the first room as you come upstairs. I knew it wouldn’t have a door and would be open to the stairwell, but I haven’t really been able to visualize it.  Now I can see exactly how it will look and how open it will be.

New Deck

I’ve showed you progress pictures of the screened-in-porch but I realized I never showed you pictures of the beginnings of the deck. In the original plans, the deck was supposed to go past that tree you see on the right hand side of the picture. We hated to cut down another really old tree from our yard so we asked if we could just make the deck smaller. We have a feeling we’ll be spending most of our time on the screened-in-porch anyways.

When we see the house every day it may not seem like a lot of progress is happening, but we have come a long way. Whether it takes a few more months or several, this is our forever home and we couldn’t be more excited to start our little family here.
