New Look + Guest Posting for Uncommon Designs

Does something look a little different? If you can’t tell, the ole blog got a little facelift. {If you are reading this through a reader or feed, be sure to hop on over to the blog to check out the new look}.

This has been a long time coming. I’ve been wanting to re-brand and re-design for quite a while and finally bit the bullet and got it done.

My style over the last few years has changed and I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do with this space and the direction I want to take the blog in.

This blog’s main focus over the last few years for the most part has been projects, whether it be a diy project or craft project. While that is still something I plan to continue doing, I want this blog to be more than just about projects and tutorials.

It was a shift that I had been feeling for a while and then I read this post about why I quit DIY and it really verbalized a lot of the things I was feeling. This part in particular.

“Instead of decorating my home because I wanted to and doing projects because they fueled my creativity, I felt an obligation.  I had to come up with X number of projects to share, I had to make sure they were original, and I found myself looking for places to do things that didn’t need anything done.”

Over the last 3 years of blogging, I’ve realized that I was starting to make and create things because I felt like I had to. I had to come up with a V-day project or had to create some sort of diy decor for my house.

Do What You Love{Source}

Over the last few months though I’ve tried to be more intentional about not churning out projects and things that I wasn’t going to really use. And as a result, I’ve discovered that I love writing about other things too like life, marriage, advice, or just sharing pretty pictures. Things that didn’t require gathering supplies, taking step by step pictures and writing a tutorial.

But, don’t get me wrong. I fully plan on still creating and diy’ing a lot of stuff for our new place once we move in. The difference is those will be things that I planned to do and want to do in our home, not just making and creating it for the sake of a blog post.

I want this to be a source of everyday inspiration {hence the new tagline}. I want you to be part of our journey and want to share more about our life and the things I’m experiencing {in addition to home decor projects}.

Header for Blog

You may be wondering why there’s a tandem bike in my new blog header. To me that encompasses ‘everyday inspiration’ and our personal journey. As you know, the hubs is an avid cyclist and we like riding bikes together {including tandem bikes}. We even used a tandem bike in our engagement pictures.

The bike feels like ‘us’ and represents our lives and our personal journey.

The gifts on the back of the bike I felt like represented all the pretty parties that I still plan to blog about and the flowers in the basket represented pretty accessories and all the pretty interiors and styled vignettes I still plan to share.

In addition to the new look {and slightly new direction}, with the new design I’ve also tried to make it easier for you to find certain projects or posts a lot easier. You can click on any of the main navigation headers and it will take you to a category page where you can select the type of project or post you want. Each category then takes you to an entire page with every post related to that topic.

Project Categories

Posts are no longer buried deep within the blog but are hopefully way more accessible for you to find.

I’m thrilled with how everything turned out {and hope you like it too}! Lindsey with Smitten Blog Designs did an amazing job and was so easy to work with and was so patient with me as I tried to figure out the look I wanted. I highly recommend them if you are looking to do a re-design of your blog anytime soon. Super seamless process and they are very quick.

I’m still making a few edits and making sure everything is linking up properly, so bear with me if you come across something that looks a little wonky. I’m getting there!

DIY Ring Toss Game

Also, I’m honored to be included in One Crafty Summer over at Uncommon Designs. Be sure to head over and check out my tutorial for how to make your own ring toss game that’s perfect for enjoying these last few weeks of summer.

Thanks Erin! This house building/renovating business isn’t for the faint of heart {as I’m sure you know from first hand experience}. Can be stressful but hopefully all worth it in the end!
