August in Review

I hate to say it, but I think summer is officially over. With the big Labor Day holiday this weekend and the cooler weather we’ve been having, I can feel fall creeping in. I’m sure gonna miss the lazy days of summer, but I have to say I’ve missed some of the routine that comes with the fall schedule.

I’ve got some fun posts in store over the next few months, but until then, here’s a little recap of all the fun posts and projects I shared with you this month.

At the beginning of the month the ole blog got a face lift. I got a whole new look and re-organized things a bit to make it easier for you to find posts and topics that interest you. I’m still loving the new look and hope you are too!

Project CategoriesWe’re still on the hunt for an outdoor ceiling fan for our screened-in-porch. I’ve been looking online for more unique outdoor fan options and shared a few of my favorites that I’ve come across.

With the re-design of the blog, I found a neat plugin that displays all your posts by category and automatically updates when new posts are tagged with a specific category. In case you are looking to do the same, I showed you how to create a thumbnail gallery of posts/topics using my new plugin discovery.

Speaking of the screened-in-porch, I’ve been trying to finalize material choices for the fireplace in our screened-in-porch as well as the interior fireplace in our living room. Been going back and forth on the look I want for each and rounded up some of my inspiration images. Since this post, I think we’ve decided on some good design options and are waiting to make final decisions once we know exact costs.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had to be more intentional about my bedtime routine in order to ensure a good night’s sleep. If sleep doesn’t come easy to you, I shared 5 tips for getting a good night’s sleep. And if your mattress is part of your sleep problem, you have until September 1 to enter for the chance to win a brand new TEMPUR-pedic mattress from the lovely folks at Havertys.

The past few weeks have been filled with furniture shopping, babies being born and out of town trips. I shared a few other things that we’ve been doing in this month’s Around Here edition.

Now that we’ve purchased a dining table and chairs, next on the list to purchase was a new couch. I put together a little vision board I have for our new living room including the couch we were considering, and have since bought. It’s a custom sofa so we wanted to go ahead and order it so it would be ready when it comes time to move in. It will look like the sofa in the below except without the chaise lounge {just another arm on that one side} and will be in a dark gray fabric.

I’ve been getting bad about procrastinating on my cleaning chores and end up spending several hours on the weekend scrubbing our place. To avoid wasting precious relaxing weekend time, I decided to create a weekly chore list to help me stay motivated and get things done during the week. If you are interested in doing the same, I offered my chore list as a free printable that you can download and use yourself!

The house progress has been unexpectedly slow and at times it can be discouraging. But, looking back at pictures from the very beginning to where we are now, we have in fact come a long way. I shared a few then and now photos along with some new progress photo updates.

We’re heading to West Virginia this weekend for a little family reunion. The resort we’re staying at has every activity you can imagine: zip lining, skeet shooting, biking, bowling and horse back riding. Excited to spend some time with family and enjoy the last long weekend of summer.

What are you guys up to this Labor Day weekend?
