Around Here:: July Edition

You may remember me posting an ‘around here’ post last month. I’ve decided to start doing this on a monthly basis. It’s a good way to share all the things we have going on in a fun, hopefully entertaining, way.

So far, July has been less busy and more relaxing than June. The long 4th of July weekend was just what we needed to catch up and rest. The house progress is still moving along..sometimes slowly. But it looks like some good progress will be made this week that I can share with you all soon.

Here’s what else we’ve been up to this month.

BBQ Chips and Ice Cream

Eating: bbq chips and ice cream on a regular basis. I know it sounds weird to some, but growing up it was something my family ate in the summers. It’s seriously so good {although you have to get the soft serve type ice cream}. There’s a gas station down the street that serves soft serve cones {and sells chips} so it’s where we go to get ourselves a little treat on the weekends. #dontknockittilyoutryit

Wishing: that my peppermint oil would work. I told you that I was going to give Peppemint essential oil a try for headaches. I’ve used it at least 3 times to no avail {my headache doesn’t go away}. All you essential oils peeps out there, what am I doing wrong?

Watching: the Tour de France every night. The hubs is a big cycling fan {and avid cyclist himself} so our DVR has been full of race coverage. Let’s just say I’m well versed in the words peloton, breakaway, and drafting by now.

4th of July Parade

Discovering: all the fun events our new hood as to offer. We went up to our new street on the 4th of July to watch the cutest little parade filled with golf carts and children. The street also hosts a giant Halloween party, Christmas party and socials with fellow neighbors. We’re so excited to be a part of our own little community within the city.

Trying: Indian food for the first time. Let’s just say I’m a baby when it comes to spicy food and Indian food is pretty spicy. ย I survived, but the multiple glasses of water I downed did not. #mouthonfire

Working: hard to finalize our cabinetry drawings and counter top selections. We’re waiting on parts of the inside of the house to be finished so final measurements can be taken to determine exact costs, but I’m hoping by the end of this month I can cross that off my list.

Front Porch Light

Struggling: to find a light for our front porch. I had my heart set on one and then learned it was too big. Womp womp. I’m thinking about putting it to a vote with you guys and letting you decide for me! What do you think?

Learning: patience. Speaking of the renovation, this process isn’t for the faint of heart. There can be lots of frustrations along the way and you really have little or no control over it. We’re both learning to be patient and let things go as much as possible. In the end, we know that we are blessed to be in the place we’re in and when it’s all said and done it will be well worth it.

Farmer's Market Loot

Making: meals from my farmer’s market scores. I scored big on my last trip this past weekend and got all this for $34. Purchases included spaghetti squash, tomato, green pepper, red pepper, lettuce, homemade pizza dough, homemade ravoli, homemade pasta and buffalo wings.

Traveling: to Asheville, NC and Raleigh, NC the next few weekends. The hubs has a cycling race this weekend in Asheville where I plan to be the proud wife cheering him on. The following weekend we are traveling to Raleigh to spend the weekend with his parents and hopefully hit up a furniture store or two in the furniture mecca {Highpoint}.

Greenville Drive Game

Enjoying: baseball games downtown, a new burger joint we can walk to from our house, fresh corn and daylight until 9pm. Summer needs to slow it down. I’m not ready for fall yet.

Changing: the look of the blog. That’s right people, I’m currently in the process of revamping the design of this ole website. I’ve had this same blog design for quite a while and it’s time for a change. I’ve felt the direction of the blog and my writing and passions changing and with that I want a fresh new look. Don’t worry, it’s nothing drastic but stay tuned for more details!

What have you guys been up to this month?

You’ll be in my neck of the woods soon. I live in Greensboro, a hop, skip, and jump away from High Point. Hope you have a fun time and find some great stuff! And don’t forget to get a picture with the world’s largest chest of drawers ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s located at Furnitureland South. It’s a HUGE furniture store in High Point, they actually claim to be the world’s largest furniture store. Seriously, you could spend days in there.

I love soft serve cones and French fries, and I have an obsession with BBQ chips, so I get it! Our summer has flown by, and the busiest parts are still to come; annual gigantic summer party for my husbands work, finally getting family pictures (after a year of convincing my husband that yes, the cost IS worth it!), hosting my husbands employees at our house for a BBQ, and our annual summer trip to the Jersey shore.

And then school is back and it’s back to getting up at six and making the dreaded school lunches. I can’t believe it’s already time to buy their school supplies!
