My List

We are really close to finalizing our plumbing and appliance selections for the renovation. Feels really good to be able to cross a few things off the list. And honestly, at least so far, picking these things out hasn’t been too overwhelming. It’s been fun. There are a lot of options, but the budget narrows down the selection quite a bit which helps.

I’ve got several renovation update posts in the works, but until then, I thought I would do a different kind of update post. A fun and quirky way to update on life in general. I recently came across a post from Design for Mankind with a fun little list . A way to take stock on what you’ve been doing. If you want to join in too, you can copy and paste the original list from here.

So, here goes.

Making:: lots of lists. I’m one of those people that gets a thrill from physically crossing off things from my list. Between my job, this blog, the renovation and just personal stuff, I have a lot of lists going to stay organized.

Cooking:: new recipes. I try to make most of the meals during the week and have tried to start meal planning. My goal each week is to try at least one new recipe, and fill in the rest of the week with tried and true menu options. Anyone have any good recipes I should try?

Drinking:: lots of water. After kicking my diet coke addiction, water is pretty much all I drink now.

Reading::  new inspiring blogs. I’m trying to branch out from my usual blog reads to get a new and fresh perspective. Some of my new finds include At Home In Love, Sarah M. Dorsey Designs, Lara Casey and Pencil Shavings Studio.

Wanting:: to learn graphic design. I taught myself how to use a pseudo-Photoshop called Gimp and can do quite a bit, but not a ton. Graphic design is something I enjoy doing and would love to learn more.

Looking:: for lighting options for the house. I actually bought a few off Joss and Main recently for $40 {I saw similar ones online for $100+}. We don’t have a very large lighting allowance so finding steals like this are a must. Bargain shopping for the win!

Playing:: with the new Facebook Paper app. I’m not a huge news person but maybe this will help me broaden my news horizons.

Wasting:: time on the internet. I’ll open the computer to do a few things, but somehow end up reading blogs or browsing Facebook for hours. Need to get better about closing the computer.

Sewing:: seeds?? j/k I don’t know the first thing about sewing. It’s always been on my goal list to learn one day. I have one jacket that keeps losing buttons, so it would be in my best interest to learn this skill sooner rather than later.

Wishing:: I had fashion sense. I love stylish interiors but somehow that doesn’t translate into my wardrobe. I need someone to come style my clothes and get me out of my wardrobe rut.

Enjoying:: this season of life. I love being a newlywed and I’m trying to soak up every minute while it’s just the two of us. Before too long, there will be little munchkins {hopefully} who will need our attention. Trying to savor every moment with each other and cherish our time together.

Waiting:: to get my new passport. I sent off to get a new one with my new last name. I still have a few other things I need to change with the new name. Just trying to do the most important ones first.

Liking:: this season of Nashville. It’s a show I started watching out of curiosity {to see how accurately they portrayed my former residence}, but I’ve gotten really into it. The drama has me hooked.

Wondering:: when the latest Hunger Games movie will come to redbox. I ended up reading the second book {haven’t read the third yet} and wanted to see the movie. Instead of spending $15 to see it, I figured I would wait and spend $1.20 to rent it.

Loving:: almond milk. I switched to almond milk before the wedding in hopes that cutting out some dairy would help with some skin issues I was having. It didn’t solve the skin problem, but I kept using it because I actually liked it better than milk.

Needing:: to purge. Now that a move is on the horizon I really need to go through the tons of boxes in our rental basement and do a major purge. A lot of the stuff I’ve been keeping from move to move was home decor stuff. Thinking that one day I MIGHT need it, I didn’t want to throw it away {go ahead, you can say it, I’m a hoarder}. But, now that we’re moving to our forever home, I can freely purge those things that aren’t going to fit with the look of the new house or things I won’t be able to use. When the weather gets a wee bit warmer, this is happening.

Smelling:: nothing. I’ve been battling a cold the last week or so which has left me with a stuffy nose and a defunct sense of smell. Here’s to being on the mend.

Wearing:: these boots almost daily. They are my favorite boots {even bought the exact same pair recently to replace the old ones that were looking rough}. See comment above about fashion sense. I need help with branching out.

Following:: this adoption journey. The hubby and I have talked about possibly adopting one day so it’s neat to get a first hand look at what the journey can look like.

Noticing:: that daylight is sticking around later and later each day which means spring is right around the corner. And this winter-hater couldn’t be more excited about that. I’m ready for pretty flowers, sunshine, walks in the neighborhood and short sleeves. Can I get an amen?

Knowing:: that I did the best I could at the end of the day when things don’t turn out quite like I expected.

Thinking:: I need to wise up and get serious about exercising. It’s easier for me to do it when it’s warm out, but when it’s dark and cold by the time I get home from work, forget it. I’m done for the day. I need to be more intentional about either walking or taking an exercise class on the weekends or even doing something at home {like pilates}. Who wants to hold me accountable?

Feeling:: blessed. I know, cliche answer. But it’s true. I feel so blessed to be decorating my dream home, to have this creative outlet, and be married to the most wonderful guy. I don’t take these things for granted one bit.

Bookmarking:: this blog post. I love this kitchen renovation and had envisioned our kitchen looking similar in style and color palette. Keeping this handy for inspiration.

Opening:: a million tabs on my computer at a time. I’ll think of something I need to look up or do, and open a new tab so I don’t forget. And I’ll keep them open until I’ve done it {which could be days}. This drives the hubby nuts. But it’s true, being a woman and a creative is like having a million tabs open in your mind on a daily basis. Being a dude, he just doesn’t get it.

Giggling:: at myself. I do a lot of dumb and clutzy things. You just have to laugh at yourself sometimes though and not take yourself so seriously.

We’ve been stuck inside the last few days due to a snowstorm that dropped several inches of snow and ice/sleet. Cabin fever was starting to set in so yesterday morning we broke out of the house for a few minutes to assess the snow situation in our current hood and our soon to be hood right up the street from us. The snow sure is pretty, but I’m really ready for spring and 60 degree temps. But in the meantime, you’ll find me snuggling under cozy blankets and drinking some hot chocolate to try and stay warm.

Happy Valentine’s Day friends!

This is a great idea, I might have to borrow it for a post of my own in the future. I always have a ton of tabs open too, right now I have 11. And I can’t wait for the second Hunger Games movie to come out on DVD too. It was SO good, very close to the book. I think it comes out in March.
