10 Ways to Re-Use Wooden Crates

You may remember the old vintage Coca-Cola crates I bought at the Nashville flea market a few years ago. They were on our styled bookshelves in Nashville before I moved. Since then, they’ve taken up residence in one of the corners of my apartment dining room.

Well, a few weekends ago we took our engagement pictures. I incorporated a lot of props into our shoot, some that I made and some that I already had on hand, including these vintage crates. I used them to display some of the food props as well as some flowers.

I love the look of wooden crates and love that you can use them in several different ways. So today I thought it would be fun to round up a few different ways you can use them. Here are 10 ways to re-use wooden crates.

10 Ways to Re-Use Wooden Crates

Wooden crates  can actually serve as function. You can stack several together and build a little side table or night stand.

Wooden crates can also serve as storage. Hang them on the wall in your entryway along with baskets to hide unsightly items like scarves, hats, umbrellas and keys.

Wooden crates are also great for storing wrapping paper or craft supplies. And bonus, they also look pretty and can add a vintage touch to your office or craft room.

Add castors to the bottom of a wooden crate and you now have a portable storage basket. Store magazines, books or the kids’ school supplies in a corner nook and roll them out when they are needed.

I’ve been doing a lot of perusing online for wedding inspiration. Wooden crates are great items to use and incorporate into your wedding decor. Mini crates can serve as your centerpiece for your tables housing your floral arrangements.

Some wooden crates can also serve as actual planters. Plant your bulbs or other indoor plants in a wooden crate or box to add an additional decor item to a room.

Do you have a little furry creature in your house? DIY one of your vintage wooden crates into a dog bowl. Looks cuter than your typical run of the mill dog bowl and it can withstand years of puppy scratchings/beatings.

If you are looking for vintage wooden crates, flea markets are a great place to find them. You can also find them at some antique stores. If you aren’t able to find one you like, go to your local craft store and buy a plain wooden crate. Give it some paint, maybe stencil a phrase or word and distress it a bit to make it look like a vintage crate.

Do you own any wooden crates? If so, how are you currently using them in your home?

I took 3 wooden crates and fastened them together then hinged the 2 top ones so can have storage and put plywood on top of that and piece of foam rubber and painters drop cloth and made a footstool. For the edging. around the drop cloth I took beer caps flattened them and put them around the drop cloth edge.
