Behind The Scenes of a Video Set {Set Design}

About a month ago, I was asked to create a set at work for one of our artists, Britt Nicole. They were wanting to film several acoustic videos and wanted to create a somewhat professional video set.

The idea was to create something that had an intimate feel. Here’s what the set looked like in the end.

I thought it would be fun today to give you a little behind the scenes look of how the whole set came together from beginning to end.

{Sidenote: I apologize in advance, these photos aren’t great. All I had with me was my iPhone.}

I started with some large metal frames. These are the type of frames that photographers use sometimes for backdrops. We just rented them for a few days.

I clamped on some black draping to the frames to create a solid black background.

Next came the lights. We already had several light kits in house from a previous event. I used those and bought some really cool vintage bulbs from Home Depot. It’s hard to tell from these pictures, but the bulbs were awesome. I want to use them in my future house one day.

I bought several strands of lights with the bigger white bulbs at Target. I strung several from the ceiling and then also draped some on the black backdrop.

Making progress!

The camera crew that came to film brought in some back lighting that you see in the back. We also rented that cool microphone in the center.

For the final step, I added black linens on the floor so you wouldn’t see the carpet in the shots.

Here’s the after shot again.

These pictures don’t really do the set justice. It looked really good in person and I was really happy with how it turned out.

Here’s one of the videos that was filmed on the set to give you a better idea of how it looked on camera.

And here’s a little fun behind the scenes shot of it being filmed.

So, what do you think? Do you think it ended up looking good on camera?
