Let’s Go Camping

I’ve only been camping once in my life. It’s been years ago but I surprisingly had a lot of fun despite my initial reservations. It was nice to completely unplug for an entire weekend. No cell service meant no way for anyone to get in touch with you. This was also before Facebook & Twitter {see I told you it has been YEARS…this also makes me feel really old}.

Doesn’t the idea of being able to completely unplug from all things social media/electronic sound pretty dreamy? Now, I should clarify, to me camping means a campground with a bath house. Meaning there is a toilet. I don’t need a shower, but I do need a bathroom and a sink. Some of you reading this are probably shaking your heads and saying that’s not really camping. But whatever…moving on.

Now that Fall is officially here and the temperatures at night are getting cool, it’s the perfect time to try my hand at camping again.

And I would especially love to go camping if my accommodations looked like this.

And how about these cute renovated campers.

Although all these tents and campers looks super cute, I would actually prefer just a simple tent with sleeping bags. The beauty of camping is the simplicity.

So who wants to come camping with me? When was the last time you went camping?

WordPress Wednesday:: Learning the Ins & Outs of WordPress

I have been using WordPress since March. I’m still loving it, but I’m still trying to figure out all the different plugins available and how to format certain parts of my blog. I’m not a super tech savvy person, but I’ve certainly learned a lot since I first started blogging in May of 2011.

I know when I made the switch from Blogger to WordPress, I was super overwhelmed with trying to figure out the new back end system and spent hours googling how to get certain things to work and look like I wanted {and also bugged fellow bloggers with countless emails}.

So, I’ve been toiling around with the idea of a new series to share all the things I’ve learned and would have loved to have known in the beginning when I made the switch. And today I’ve decided to bring that idea to fruition.

I’m calling it WordPress Wednesday.

Wordpress Wednesday

I know not all of you who read my blog are bloggers yourself so don’t worry, this won’t be an every Wednesday kind of thing {just thinking every other week or so starting next week}.

But, for those of you that do blog, and currently use or plan to use WordPress, I’m hoping this series will be of some help to you!

I’ll share everything from how to buy your domain, WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org, the plugins I’m using and a little bit of html coding as well {what little I know thus far}.

So, I would love to know, do you have any specific questions about WordPress? Just leave your questions in the comments and I will do my best to answer them!

I’m going over to a neighbor’s house tonight to help them decorate/style their bookshelves. Hoping to apply some of my own tips to their shelves. Will definitely document the process and share the result as soon as we’re finished!

Happy Wednesday friends!

DIY Fish Scale Art & Pom Pom Set Designs

Happy Monday friends! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! The weather here was absolutely gorgeous and perfect for getting some projects done. I started the process of decorating for fall and hope to have it all finished sometime this week. Stay tuned for pictures.

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you guys some recent sets I did in our video room at work. We have two main walls, a turquoise wall and a ‘purple-ish’ wall. I shared the turquoise set with you guys before with the gallery wall of frames. They asked if we could switch up that wall a bit for a recent video, so here’s what I came up with.

DIY Fish Scale Wall Art Set

I switched up the accessories on the side table. I bought the gold candelabra and red dish from Target. Sidenote: speaking of Target, have you heard about The Shops at Target this fall. They have taken four small boutiques and are carrying some of their collections in Target stores across the country for a limited time. My favorite is the Curiosity Shoppe. But just trust me, if you haven’t been to Target lately, be sure to go check it out!

I also kept the horse head but added some books that I had at home from my bookshelves.

On the wall, I replaced the gallery wall of frames with some diy fish scale wall art.

I don’t have really have a step by step tutorial on how I made these {failed to take pictures} but Two Thirty-Five Designs has a great tutorial.

I bought the canvases at JoAnns for 40% off. I used gold scrapbook paper and double sided tape to attach the circles to the canvas. You can just trace and cut circles if you prefer, but I also bought a circle puncher to save some time {and save my hands}.

Instead of covering the entire canvas with the fish scale look, I decided to leave a 1/2 inch border all the way around. Pretty easy and I love how they turned out!

I also switched up our ‘purple-ish’ wall. Previously it had our pallet wall art. But I wanted it to be a little more girly and fun this time. I used the tissue paper pom poms from the gold themed set I did not too long ago and attached them to the wall in a checkerboard pattern.

Here’s a sideview as well.

Overall though, I kept this set pretty simple. As soon as the videos are posted that were filmed in front of these sets, I’ll be sure to share them with you guys. :)

Happy Monday friends!

100+ Ways to Decorate For Fall This Season

I’m calling this weekend ‘project decorating for fall.’ I have some ideas of how I want to decorate our mantel and porch/front door. I just need to get started and get as much done this weekend as I can.

I’ve been scouring the web the last week or so for inspiration to help me decide what I want to do. If you are like me and haven’t taken the plunge and busted out your fall decor just yet, I thought it would be fun to round up some ideas on how we can all welcome fall into our homes. Instead of pulling together my own little roundup of some fabulous decorating ideas, I thought I would do a roundup of roundups {does that even make sense} that some fabulous sites/bloggers have already pulled together.

Little Girl’s Mint Green Bedroom Inspiration

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. I’m back in my routine this week and have had the chance to knock out some of the things I’ve had on my list to do for a bit.

One of the things on my list was to pull together some decorating inspiration and ideas for a little girl’s bedroom. One of my co-workers has a little girl and they were asking me if I had any ideas for decorating a little girl’s room. The colors they mentioned they were planning to use were mint green and white. I said I would do a little research and put together a little inspiration board with ideas.

I tried to come up with a few diy ideas to keep it as inexpensive as possible but also add a little ‘glam’ to the space. Here’s what I came up with.

Little Girl's Mint Green Bedroom

In addition to the mint green and white color scheme, I decided to throw in some gray and pink just to bring some additional color.

Here’s a breakdown of everything::

1. I loved the idea of adding a bit of glam with this cute chandelier from Home Depot.

2. I love a good gallery wall and thought a gallery wall of mirrors would make a big statement in the room. {You can find mirrors at your local thrift stores or Ikea has fairly cheap mirrors as well}.

3. My mom used to sing ‘you are my sunshine’ to me when I was a little girl so I loved this ‘you are my sunshine’ print. I also love it because it adds a bit of ‘rustic charm.’

4. For fabrics in the room, I think you can pull together a bunch of different solids for bedding etc., but I thought it would be fun to incorporate this rain drop print somewhere in the room to tie all the colors together.

5. For wall paint colors, I found this shade of mint green from Valspar called Hint of Mint that I thought would look good on the walls.

6. Every little girl needs her own big girl bed and I love how curvy and girly this daybed is from Pottery Barn.

7. Who doesn’t love tissue paper pom poms? They are an inexpensive way to decorate any space. I thought it would look cute to cluster together a bunch of different colors in one of the corners of the room. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to make your own. Here’s my tutorial from when I made some for a set design for work recently.

8. I thought this cute little box set from Ruche would be a great little accessory to add to the room whether on some shelving or on a dresser/night stand.

9. Books are also an easy and fairly inexpensive way to bring color to any space. To match your color scheme, paint the spines of some old books {ones you already have or maybe some from Goodwill}.

10. Basic shelves are perfect for not only fun accessories but also great for organization.

11. Spice up a plain white lamp shade with some fabric rosettes to add a pop of color. You can find these on Etsy or here’s a tutorial on how to make your own. Here’s how I spiced up a plain burlap shade in my own room.

12. I just love this owl lamp and thought it might add a bit of ‘whimsey’ to the room.

13. This mirrored side table from Target compliments the gallery wall of mirrors in the room.

14. And I just love this style of chair and loved the gray chevron pattern.

What do you think? Now I’m wishing I had a little girl’s room to decorate…

If you have young kids, what’s one way you inexpensively decorated their rooms?
