Old 2 New:: Headboard To Bench

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I’m really excited for today’s Old 2 New project. Jen from Scissors and Spatulasliterally took ‘trash’ and turned it into something really amazing. Her husband’s childhood bed was going to be thrown away. She had a vision for it though.

She added a few additional pieces of wood.

Painted and distressed it.

The result was this incredible foyer bench!

Next time you’re driving down the road and you see someone has thrown out an old bed, you now know what you can do with it :)

Check out her blog for a full step by step on how to make your own!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. I have a busy weekend planned. Hoping to have some time to make these at some point this weekend.

Fall Decor:: Door Decor

Today is all about fall door decor over at Southern Hospitality. I’m joining the fun with my door decor.

I made this felt wreath last winter.

It’s been up since then. I’ve been meaning to change it up a bit. Fall is the perfect time to make some changes.

I liked how my fall burlap banner turned out, so I thought I would make a mini one for the wreath.

I used the same orange burlap and brown fabric for the letters and attached it with brown and white twine.

I also switched out the green ribbon with the orange burlap to hang it.

Love the pop of orange against the black door. The colors are also perfect for Halloween :)

I also got a little bale of hay and an assortment of pumpkins & gourds to put outside the door.

Here’s a look at our ‘mini’ front porch. :)

Only so much you can do with a tiny space, right?

Wednesday Inspiration:: Pumpkins

Today, I’m continuing with the fall theme. Fall is all about crisp air, crunchy leaves, scarves and last but not least PUMPKINS!

If you checked out the mantle party over at The Lettered Cottage yesterday, I’m sure you saw lots of pumpkins being used as decor.

I know for me, most of the time I either think about carving them for Halloween or just setting them outside my front door as is. But, there are so many different uses for pumpkins, both as decoration and as function.Here are just a few.

{Pumpkin Planters}

I used to not like the idea of white pumpkins. It felt a little ‘untraditional’ to me. Now, I’m loving how clean and crisp they look and I especially love the idea of painting silhouettes. I love a good silhouette :)

Have you done something unique with your pumpkins??

Fall Decor:: Mantles/Shelves

Like I mentioned on Friday, I’ve added a few fall decor touches in our place to embrace the new season.
I tried to use things that I already had to avoid spending a lot of money.  One of the things I love to see is how people decorate their mantles. Mantle decor is easy to change out for every season.

The one thing we don’t have in our place is a mantle. It’s the one thing I’m hoping to have in our next place for sure!

But, instead of a mantle, we do have two shelves that we installed over our tv. I decided to add a few fall touches to these as a faux ‘mantle.’

I found a few pine cones in my friend’s backyard to add to the candle holder I had up on one of the shelves and added another to the opposite end. I also added a little ‘faux’ pumpkin.

On the other shelf, I made a burlap ‘fall’ wreath and added a few more ‘faux’ pumpkins. I bought the orange burlap on one of my recent ‘antiquing’ trips and used some of the leftover brown fabric from when I made my fabric rosettes to make the letters. The letters were cut and attached with my Silhouette machine’s fabric interfacing.

When the interfacing first came out, I bought it but didn’t have a project yet to use it with. I thought this was the perfect time to try it out! The whole banner is hung with jute string I already have.

I had totally planned on posting a full tutorial for the burlap banner, but threw it together one night after work and the lighting was terrible. I’m hoping to make more of these type of banners using the fabric interfacing and will be sure to post a tutorial then!

I’m linking up my ‘faux’ mantle today over at the Lettered Cottage. Be sure to check out all the other mantles that have been linked up!

Take a Peek:: Inside the Home of Ten June

Last week, we got a glimpse inside the home of Dear Lillie. This week, I bring you Michelle’s home from Ten June.Michelle and her husband bought their 1952 ranch back in March of 2010 and have spent a lot of time fixing it up. When I stumbled on her blog several months ago, the first thing I did was check out all the pictures from her home. I love how they did a lot of the renovations themselves and how Michelle has added personal handmade touches in each room.

So, let’s begin!

Be sure to check out the before pictures of each room as well.
